How a minute repeater works
A minute repeater strikes the time on request. Sliding a lever on the case winds a striking train, and two hammers hit tuned gongs inside the case. A low note counts the hours, a double note the quarters, and a high note the minutes since the last quarter. It lets the wearer read the time by sound in the dark.
