Cartier watches
Cartier was founded in Paris in 1847 by Louis-François Cartier, who took over the workshop of his master, Adolphe Picard.
About Cartier
The house remained under family control until 1964, is now part of the Swiss Richemont Group, and is still headquartered in Paris.
Its watchmaking story is closely tied to the Santos. In 1904 the aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont asked Louis Cartier for a watch he could read while flying, and the Santos was the result. The Santos and the Tank remain Cartier's best known watch families.
