About the Rolex Explorer II
Rolex introduced the Explorer II in 1971 as a companion to the original Explorer, intended for cave explorers who needed to tell day from night underground. It did this with an additional 24-hour hand read against a fixed 24-hour bezel, and that fixed bezel still separates it from the GMT-Master II, which has a rotating one. The first reference was the 1655, and later generations grew the case, reaching 42mm with reference 216570. Reference 226570, introduced in 2021, kept the 42mm case size, used calibre 3285 with about 70 hours of power reserve, and was offered with a white or black dial.
