About the Panerai Luminor

Panerai's Luminor takes its name from the tritium-based luminous substance with which Panerai replaced radium, and its defining feature is the bridge that protects the winding crown. Both came out of Panerai's work supplying instruments and watches to the Italian Navy and its divers. The Luminor reached the civilian market in 1993. In 2025 Panerai updated the 44mm Luminor Marina with the automatic calibre P.980, a case about 12 per cent thinner than before, a three-day power reserve and water resistance increased to 500 metres, the highest yet for the Luminor Marina.
