About the Breitling Superocean

Breitling introduced the Superocean in 1957 with two dive watches: the time-only ref. 1004 and the chronograph ref. 807. Both had 200 metres of water resistance and large hour markers for legibility, a principle drawn from Breitling's aviation instruments. A later chronograph known as the Slow Motion used a central minute hand completing one rotation per hour to make dive times easier to read. In 1983 the ref. 81190 reached 1000 metres with a helium escape valve. Breitling now offers the vintage-styled Superocean Heritage separately from the modern Superocean, which comes in 36mm, 42mm, 44mm and 46mm cases with automatic movements and 300 to 1000 metres of water resistance.
