About the Seiko 5 Sports
Seiko 5 dates to 1963, when the Sportmatic 5 became Japan's first automatic day-date watch. Seiko 5 Sports followed in 1968 for active wearers. Each Seiko 5 promised five attributes: an automatic movement, a day-date display at three o'clock, water resistance, a recessed crown at four o'clock and a durable case and bracelet. The sports models added greater water resistance, a strengthened crystal and luminous hands and markers. Seiko relaunched 5 Sports in 2019 with a case based on one of its best-loved sports watches, 10 bar water resistance and the automatic calibre 4R36, and added a GMT series in 2022.
